To be continued...?

As a few of you may have noticed, I've not been blogging anywhere near as much recently.

When I have been posting, it's been rather lacklustre. Apologies.

The thing is, I'm just not feeling style blogging anymore. Leaving aside the fact that I now work fulltime in a job I love (promoting an internationally touring circus has to be one of the most fun jobs EVER) and have next to no downtime, it feels like I've hit a block as far as this blog goes.

Stepping into a jazzy outfit and snapping contrived outfit photos doesn't feel fun and creative anymore. It feels stale, and uninspired, and self indulgent. Since finishing university my sartorial creativity has extended beyond the boundaries of my old shop-bought wardrobe. I don't want to consume anymore, I want to create. Designing my upcycled gear has afforded me that freedom, but I don't want this blog to turn into a marketing platform for my design endeavours, either.

I think the problem is external as well as internal. The bloggers I love, whose posts I read religiously (Tanya, Kathryn, Elissiam, Miss Tallulah, Bebe Zeva, I'm looking at you) all seem to have ground to a standstill too. While there are still a couple that keep my bloglust sated (Jenny, Kate, Katie, Annika) what's left on my feed is predominately made up of thinly veiled advertorial and endless reviews of the latest 'it' lipstick. Consumer lust. Primark hauls. Aspirational lifestyle posts. Comment crawling and PR baiting. Heavy on the product placement but devoid of any character. It makes me switch off, and wonder why I'm still reading. Are any of you guys feeling the same thing?

So I'm going to give this ol' URL a rest. I'm not saying it's forever, but I can't quite bring myself to schedule a return date. Hell, I find it hard enough to schedule a dinner appointment with my own father.

I'd love to keep in touch with those of you who I chatted with regularly. Drop me a line on bettibaudelaire@gmail.com and I'll send you my Facebook. Otherwise, it's tata for now.

Here's a bunch of my favourite outfit posts I've snapped over the last 24 months, and the last one I'll be doing for a while, but which accurately reflects my life-plan right now.

  1. YES YES YES. YESSSSS. Agree a million percent. I can't be arsed with blogging anymore, at least not "style" blogging. You said it perfectly - it seems a bit self-indulgent and even a little bit wanky. In the end there is no real point to any of this, is there? It is just a way to show off how ToTEz StYlisH you are, whilst getting half-arsed compliments from strangers who are only commenting to get more hits on their own blogs. BLEEHHH.

Having said that I have always really really loved your blog, and your style, and I will be sad to see it go! I hope we can keep in touch because you're a COOL DUDE. :) :) :)

PLZ CAN U CHEK OUT MY BLAWG?

    1. I'm glad you get what I mean! I started to feel more and more like an idiot every time I started posting, and I'm not in the habit of spending time and effort only to feel like the winner of the Worlds Biggest Prick award.
Though I do miss your cat-related ramblings haha. Lets keep in touch - do you have Twitter?
LOLZ YEH I'LL CHECK UR BLOG YO, COMMENT FOR COMMENT?? FOLLOW ME?? PLZ??? xx

  2. Are you also retiring that Slimer top? Cause I want it! I feel you. I left from December-July and will probably disappear again after I go back to work in mid August. I know your creative efforts will be used for a higher purpose and am excited to see that. Hope you do have a blog or site for your line one day. Now go have dinner with your father. I miss mine.

    1. I would send it your way if it wasn't the property of my boyfriend, lovely lady! Did you enjoy your break? I will be checking back for updates, mind :)
Is your littl'un doing well? I do have a site for my stuffs (bettibaudelaire.co.uk) but I'm tragically stuck in the last century and have trouble finding the impetus to update regularly. xx

  3. Lady! Farewell! I totally get the decision to leave - I've wanted to quit blogging for literally a year but ... It just goes on haha. I wish blogging was as it once was. Communities of ladies who share things about their lives and what they wear and are actually honest about it. But unfortunately, it's hard to resist money for something as easy as putting an ad up / free clothes for simply taking pictures in them. Fashion blogging has been ruined, kinda! That all being said, I hope you come back at some point! You have great style and 'real' bloggers are always the best to read. Do you have Instagram by any chance?

    1. Haha I get that too - at various points blogging was the only thing that made me feel vaguely productive! Do carry on blogging - you're one of the good ones (as I may have mentioned haha)! I miss the good old days of blogging - jeez, one of us should write a folk song about it's demise or something.
I get that it's hard to resist dolla for a post - I almost did it a couple of times when I was ridiculously hard-up, but the boyfriend talked me out of it!I don't have instagram I'm afraid - I downgraded to a phone that wouldn't have looked out of place in the early 80's. It doesn't even have a camera! I do have twitter though - it's @betti_ttt. Do ye have an account? If so, I'll go hit yr follow button! xx

  4. Ah the woman who started my blogging world is moving on!!! :( this makes me very sad but I can completely understand and if anything I feel the same. It seems that my more 'popular' items have more hits example; juju jellies as appose to ones close to my heart like my post about my Gran's vintage rings and I'm totally tired of everyone giving me the same generic comment like you said so they get more comments! I'm getting more and more aware of how blogging is making me feel and right now it's not positive. I think apart from some commitments I've made I may give my blog a rest too. Sooooo bored of seeing on twitter people posting the same shit on generic lipsticks etc too. Baaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!! Step away from the vehicle!
Love you Bet, I'm very privileged that I'll still get to see your quirky style in the flesh now and then!

  5. Oh it will be sad not to see your face! But I definitely get where you're at - particularly regarding creative output as I think our energies are both being focused into new paths. In memoriam I have these words for you and your blog - thank you for being wicked. It was real. Your posts were always so entertaining and interesting. Actually interesting! With unique flair and atypical brilliance. xx
